The Transportation and Models Planning Unit is responsible for long-term strategic transportation planning. The unit is a professional body that initiates and examines transportation and urban projects, using various dedicated tools, including computerized imaging of the behavior of the transportation network in various scenarios. As a professional planning body, the Unit compiles various and diverse databases that are used by both the Unit and by professionals in the public and private sector. The Unit also uses the models as a quasi- R&D body in transportation planning, and special tools it has initiated development of are used as examples for various professionals in Israel and overseas.
